Interview with Johannes Thingnes Bø
We had the opportunity to sit down with Johannes Thingnes Bø, the reigning World Cup champion, to discuss his career, training regimen, and insights into biathlon.
Q: How did you get started in biathlon? A: I grew up in a family that was passionate about skiing and shooting. My older brother, Tarjei, was already competing in biathlon, and I naturally followed in his footsteps. I started training seriously when I was about 12 years old and quickly fell in love with the sport.
Q: What does your typical training schedule look like? A: My training varies throughout the year, but it generally includes a mix of endurance workouts, strength training, and shooting practice. During the off-season, I focus on building my aerobic base with long-distance running and cycling. As the season approaches, I incorporate more skiing and specific biathlon training sessions.
Q: How do you handle the mental aspect of biathlon, especially during shooting? A: Mental focus is crucial in biathlon. I practice mindfulness and visualization techniques to stay calm and composed during competitions. When I’m at the shooting range, I focus on my breathing and try to block out any distractions. It’s about finding a balance between intensity and relaxation.
Q: What has been your most memorable moment in biathlon so far? A: Winning my first Olympic gold medal in PyeongChang 2018 was an unforgettable moment. Standing on the podium, hearing the national anthem, and knowing that all the hard work had paid off was incredibly rewarding. It’s a feeling I’ll cherish forever.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring biathletes? A: My advice would be to stay dedicated and enjoy the journey. Biathlon is a challenging sport that requires patience and perseverance. Focus on improving your skills step by step, and don’t get discouraged by setbacks. Most importantly, have fun and stay passionate about what you do.
Q: What are your goals for the future? A: I aim to continue competing at the highest level and add more titles to my name. Another goal is to promote biathlon and inspire the next generation of athletes. I believe there’s still a lot I can achieve, and I’m excited about the future.
Thank you, Johannes, for sharing your insights and experiences with us. We wish you continued success in your career.
